Breed: Ruth Darlene Stewart – (Aladar Beagles)
|I obtained my first show dog, a Vizsla, in 1974. During the next few years I purchased a Doberman for obedience and several more vizslas. I started handling and travelling with an all breed pro handler and his wife while showing my vizslas. They were handling beagles for Helen Nall of Nall Acres beagles. They whelped her last litter after her death. Through them and my involvement in obedience with Dobermans, I met Charlie and Patsy Grant (Patches beagles). They were my original beagle mentors. I obtained my first beagle from them, in 1986, a half-brother to the well-known CH Teloca Patches Lil Dickens. A few years later I purchased my foundation female from Sharon Clark (Swan Lake Beagles). After careful consideration she was shipped to Carroll Diaz (Page Mill Beagles) and bred to CH Page Mill On the Road Again. That breeding produced five champions and sealed my fate as a lifelong beagle person.
My kennel name is AlaDars. My beagles have received two NBC Top Dam awards and I have bred over 30 champions with many of them multiple group placers. One of my 13” males was awarded BBE/AOM at the first Eukanuba Invitational and then repeated BBE/BOS at the second Eukanuba Invitational. This was accomplished with a limited breeding program and majority of my dogs being owner handled.
I was also co breeder and co owner of the only Ridgeback in the history of the breed to win the Hound Group at Westminster.
I have judged beagles since 2002 and I am currently approved for six breeds. My judging assignments have included the Rocky Mountain Beagle Specialty, the Phoenix Arizona Beagle Club Specialty, the San Jacinto Beagle Club Specialty and many all-breed shows. I was a President of the now dissolved Beagle Rescue Foundation of America and currently a Board member of the Gulf Coast Hound Club. I am a supporting Member of the National Beagle Club of America and the Chairperson of the Health and Genetics committee.
I was honored to receive the National Beagle Club of America Outstanding Sportsmanship Award in 2014 for my dedication to the breed I love so much.
The greatest and most humbling gift was given to me by my peers when I won the nomination and following election to judge the 2018 Beagle Nationals in Portland Oregon. Judging the Nationals is a dream come true for me. Again thank you to all the members.
Throughout my journey I have been very blessed to have Bill, my wonderful husband of 38 years, supporting me in all my endeavors.
Sweepstakes: Mr. Hugh Peek – (Wilkeep Beagles)
|My story is not unlike many who are engaged in the sport of breeding and showing dogs. We simply wanted a dog for a pet for our children, so in the fall of 1975 we purchased a Beagle. We named him Sailor Boy.
In the spring of 1976 after completing an obedience course and winning his class at an All Breeds Match, we established our Kennel name – Wilkeep Beagles. Within 2 years Sailor had earned a Best in Show and 2 obedience degrees (CD & CDX) His title
BIS Ch Yaupon Row Sailor Boy CDX
Through the ensuing years we have bred and showed many of our Beagles to their championships and in 1989 we received the Pedigree Top Breeder of 15″ Beagles Award. So proud of this award and proud of Multi Best in Show winner Ch Keith’s Wilkeeps Nicodemus, a product of our breeding program, who was instrumental in getting the award.
At the same time several of our Beagles were making their mark in Obedience, one of which went High in Trial at the NBC in Cleveland OH.
I have judged at several all breed fun matches in the East Texas area and have held several beginners obedience classes in Lufkin and Nacogdoches TX, Over the years I have attended conformation and Obedience seminars to hone my skills.
Forty plus years in the sport and still love it just as much as the day I got our first Beagle. Thank you Sailor Boy, your impact on my life is immeasurable. So many friends gained both here in the USA and world wide.
I am honored to have been selected to judge Sweepstakes at our 2018 National in Portland OR.,
