The Top Twenty Beagles
from each variety will be invited to compete in the Top Beagle event
once again this year.
The Top Twenty invitees are chosen based on breed points earned during
the year 2009, as gathered from official AKC reports.
A panel of three judges
- an AKC judge with a minimum of eight breeds
- a professional handler
- a breeder
will evaluate the entries based on the 100-scale in the AKC Beagle Standard from a positive approach versus fault-based methods. All three judges will be in the ring at the same time.
The judges will determine this year’s Top Beagle, while spectators will vote to establish the People’s Choice.
The Top Beagle winner will be announced at the NBC Banquet;
The People’s Choice will be announced on the evening following the tallying of ballots.
Each entry will receive a personalized rosette, a two page ad in the special Top Twenty catalog, a complimentary photo, and two reserved ringside seats.
The special catalogs - with two pages devoted to each entry, including a three generation pedigree - will be available for purchase before the event and at the door.
Pre-ordered catalogs are $18 which includes two free admission tickets and two People’s Choice Ballots.
Catalogs purchased at the door are $25 and also include free admission for two and two ballots.

Entry at the door without catalog purchase is $10 per person and includes one ballot.
Pre-ordered catalogs to be mailed after the show include postage for the $18 price.
